Hi! I’m Jonathan Davies and obviously this is my blog.

I’m 15 and currently live and go to school in England (Cheltenham if you want the city). Apart from writing this blog you can find me playing hockey, reading, the odd spot of video and photography and finishing my homework in the last minute.

The Site…

My blog runs on the best web publishing platform in the world - Wordpress. I have never really considered any other (apart from a brief stint Drupal; but that was more of an investigation). It runs seamlessly and has seemingly unlimited amount of expandability with plug-ins and a vast wealth of themes.

JonathanDavies.org.uk runs the slightly modified version of Michael Castilla’s WP Candy V1. It is an amazing theme, very clean and simple and with some cool eye candy. My thanks go to Chris Leigh (my teacher) who spent a long time helping me put asides into use (in other words doing most of it for me).

I manage the site using the following tools:

Textwrangler for the code editing, and CSS Edit for (obviously) editing the CSS. They both have very intuitive interfaces - something very important for me as I’m still learning.

Flow is my FTP. The live view and edit are killer features, it looks more like the finder than an FTP - which is the way I like it!

For publishing actual posts and asides I use Mars Edit: one of the best $30 I have ever spent. Having my whole writing process on the desktop is far more productive.

The site is hosted by Siteground, who (if you ask me) have some of the greatest hosting deals around. They are the first hosting company I have ever used and so far have had no reason to make a second. I suggest that if you are looking for hosting - they are the people to check out.

My Mac…

I have been a switcher since August and have never looked back, apart from the small fact that I have Vista installed for some school software and the odd game. I own a 2.2GHz MacBook Pro; maxed out with 4GB of RAM - as Steve Jobs would say - “It’s a screamer!”

Attached to my mac (via either wires, wi-fi or bluetooth) is Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mighty Mouse (so in this case, not attached) and a LaCie Hard Drive (which I don’t recommend) which is used for storing all of my video footage, I also have a Time Capsule which is used for backup and storing a few files.
